Creating and implementing a social media strategy is vital to the success of your brand online. You need to have a clearly outlined plan for your social/digital media accounts in order to see real results. That being said, it is extremely important that brands do a follow-up or a check-in with their accounts to review and ensure that everything is going according to the plan. This is best done via a Social Media Audit.
A social media audit, as mentioned above, is essentially the process of reviewing what works, what doesn’t work and how to improve moving forward. Doesn’t sound that complicated, right?
To get started it’s best to have a spreadsheet handy to quickly record and keep track of all the data you’re reviewing.
Review all your social media profiles
When reviewing your social media profiles, you will list the following:
• Social Media Handles
• Social Media URLs
• Number of followers/fans
• Number of posts per day
• Last time of activity
Based on the information you retrieved, you will need to ask yourself a few questions. Are all your social media profiles operating effectively? Are you reaching your target audience on all your social media platforms?
Review Posts (Both video and image content)
You have to review your content with objective eyes. Are all your profile pictures consistent and in-tune with your brand? Is the imagery effective and of the highest quality? Is it eye-catching? Are you leveraging enough video content?
Believe it or not, ensuring that your content is consistent and of the highest quality will make a big difference with content reach and engagement.
Review Reports/Analytics
This is a vital component of the social media audit. At the beginning of this post we mentioned that it all starts with a social media strategy. That is where you determine the goals and metrics you want. If you don’t measure it, how will you know that you’re on track and that everything is going according to the plan?
When reviewing your analytics, you need to determine if you’ve met all your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) you initially outlined in your plan. If you did, then great! You’re on the right track! If you didn’t, no need to panic. This is useful information. It informs you of what you need to improve on going forward.
That was simple wasn’t it? I’m sure it took less than 20 minutes! Now you’re on your way to executing that killer social media strategy and receiving real results!
