It’s so easy for us to look at others who have made it big in their respective industries and say, “I want to be doing that too” or “I need to be where they are”. As humans, we tend to look at the accomplishments of successful people and automatically say we need to be doing what they’re doing at the top.
PAUSE.
That’s. Not. How. This. Works.
As Gary Vaynerchuk would say, “Stop acting bigger than you actually are!”. You have to take the necessary steps at the bottom, and work your way up. We all have to start somewhere. So it’s fine to have long term goals, but do not stunt your progress by focusing on that big meeting or interview you want to land that you forget about all the smaller meetings/interviews you need to take that will ultimately prepare you for what’s coming next!
Change your perspective and start viewing your opportunities as one is greater than zero. Go to those smaller meetings. Take that interview. Soon enough, with continuous hard work and humility, you will find yourself where you want to be.
Check out what Gary Vaynerchuk has to say about the “One is Greater than Zero” concept.
